From very early in my own childhood, I was aware of a dramatic difference in my father’s ‘job’ versus those of other moms and dads. While others told stories of business, accounting, banking or law, my father told stories of history and families that had amassed great collections of furniture, artworks, jewelry and decorations. And while growing up this way seemed different than others, it was forever fascinating to hear about. My earliest recollections were of the bankruptcy of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the sale that emanated from that historic collection of railroad memorabilia. When it came time for me to consider a career, while becoming a member of Freeman’s seemed very attractive, I decided to explore the worlds of financial services and the implementation of technology into enterprises.
While these careers were satisfying at an economic level, I always felt a draw towards the family business, but could not clearly identify how I could assist with what was an already established and going concern. When my father courageously invested in a new business plan for Freeman’s that allowed for greater compartmentalization within the business, my path was clear. Freeman’s needed a person to introduce the firm’s increasing capabilities to the estate planning and administrative functions of the trust departments of banks, attorneys, financial advisors and the like. With the tremendous success achieved by our departmentalization, I have never looked back. I myself have been involved in some very interesting estates and am eager to build upon the successes achieved by our specialists.
