“My aim is to be an ally to my clients, helping them to realize their items full potential.” - Kelly Wright

An Ally to My Clients

My love of art and antiques began as a child.  My mother’s father was the black sheep of a very successful American family, who chose a life of, shall we say ‘adventure’, rather than entering the family firm.  As his money disappeared, so did the family art and antiques.  Both of my grandparents died when my mother was quite young and so the items that remained with her became her way of connecting with the past.  My mother’s treasures were tokens really, and invested with emotion that outstrips any financial value.  When the Tiffany silver came out at holidays I knew which great-grandparent’s monogram it bore and the Chippendale chairs were from the old Long Island house, not the Park Avenue house…. Without understanding it, I was being groomed to be the appraiser and adviser of fine art and antiques that I have become today—to listen to clients, appreciate their stories and understand that for some, the objects they are selling are much more than objects.

I’ve had the benefit of seeing this business from every angle. As a recent college graduate, my career began humbly, selling at the Chelsea Flea Markets in New York in the early 1990’s. Twenty years later I led the appraisal and sale of the Lehman Brothers/Neuberger Berman corporate art collections.  There have been many clients and projects along the way, but I’ve never stopped being fascinated by the world of things. I’ve also never missed the opportunity to learn and see new things everyday- whether it’s discovering a trove of Richard Poussette-Dart paintings, a rare Patek-Philippe watch or an important Qing dynasty table.  My career may have begun as a dealer, but my true calling is as an appraiser and adviser.  My aim is to be an ally to my clients, helping them to realize their items full potential.
