Many of Philadelphia’s up and coming young collectors were in enthusiastic attendance at a recent cocktail event for the April 6 auction, 1,000 Years of Collecting: The Jeffrey M. Kaplan Collection.

Kaplan’s collection of objects spanning over one thousand years features a broad and exciting mix of Asian Works of Art, British Prints, European Decorative arts and 20th century Design. The new crowd was keenly interested in the high quality, exceptional taste, and accessible prices for young collectors like themselves. With a large proportion of the works under $1000, the sale has created a buzz among new collectors.

Asian textiles and costume were of particular interest to the fashion-minded, and edgy works by Albert Paley drew those interested in architecture and design. The collection of British arts and crafts were also of interest to a number of the guests, who admired the color and clean lines of the pieces. Prints by Vlaminck, Nolde, Hassam, Burchfield and Wadsworth also caught the eye.

For over 100 years, Freeman’s has been proud of its ability to excite, educate, and introduce new buyers to exceptional works as they begin their collections.
